About Us
I’m Dan Smith, business owner of Northern Outdoor. I work at the heart of the company delivering courses and activities that I am genuinely passionate about. I am also co-owner of Northern Bootcamp, our sister company.
My passion for the great outdoors began many moons ago. I served in the British Army for 13 years and was fortunate enough to undertake and lead many expeditions all over the world. In 2018, I embarked upon my own expedition and became the first person to kayak the length of Britain, inland, covering 998miles in “The paddle of Britain”
The opportunity to share my passion and expertise with others is heart of Northern Outdoor and the courses I have developed are designed to inspire others to find their passion too and enjoy completely unique experiences.
A day in the wilderness
Switch off from everyday life, unplug and spend a day learning the basic skills of survival.
This is a practical course, set in a unique and private woodland in a beautiful part of Northumberland. The course will feed you with knowledge and give you the opportunity to develop skills for survival, covering the basic principles with hands on expert tuition from our experienced instructors.
2 Day Canoe & Wild Camp Experience
This is a fantastic expedition, 2 day river adventure. Paddling down the river in an open boat canoe is an exhilarating and unique experience. Setting up camp on an island in the middle of a river and utilising bushcraft skills to light a fire and make a shelter with equipment supplied. We will paddle approximately 8 miles down river on Day 1 and a further 14 miles to our get out on Day 2.
Coasteering
Adrenalin fuelled fun and adventure. If you love water and exploration, this is the activity for you. Explore the stunning Northumberland coastline from via land and sea. Access areas and views that others can’t. Restore your vitality by jumping and swimming into the North Sea. Fully qualified instructors and all kit and safety equipment provided.
